Syed Zomma Mohiuddin
Syed Zomma Mohiuddin, the President & CEO of Telecom Foundation has been leading the digital transformation and financial turnaround of the Foundation and its subsidiaries since 2019, with continuously growing annual income as well contributions to the national social sectors such as education and health. As P&CEO, Mr Mohiuddin introduced a 5-year strategic master plan in the Foundation as well as its subsidiaries from the year 2020, paving the way for sustainable growth instead of the adhoc year to year planning that was carried out historically. This resulted in financial turnaround of the Foundation as well as its subsidiaries; opening of new schools and health units after a gap of over 20 and 10 years respectively, conversion and expansion of these units into digital and smart units, winning large scale countrywide fibre optic connectivity projects, offering of green energy and smart solutions to both the corporate and residential sectors and organizational restructuring that has not only given rise to higher earnings for the Foundation but also transformed it into a knowledge based HR and organization.
With an MBA from Oxford University and a Masters in Radio & Communications engineering from Kings College London, Mr Mohiuddin brings over 25 years of rich global ICT, technology and strategic management experience, including engineering the world’s first GSM 1800 cellular network (Cable & Wireless UK), one of the world’s first GSM dual band cellular networks (Nokia Networks AG, Switzerland) and Pakistan’s first 4G wireless digital multi-channel TV network (DWN). Mr Mohiuddin was also the founding head of the Corporate Strategy as well as the Multimedia & Broadband departments of PTCL (Pakistan’s largest ICT service provider) that transformed the service provider from a phone company into a multimedia and Broadband company, between 2002-11. Under his leadership in the Multimedia and Broadband departments, PTCL grasped over 90% of the country's market share for internet broadband, making it the largest broadband service provider in the country. Mr. Mohiuddin was awarded with the PTCL ‘Presidential’ award in 2010 as Head (Executive Vice President) of the company’s broadband business group. Mr Mohiuddin was also the author of the official first broadband policy of Pakistan (Ministry of IT & Telecom, Govt of Pakistan), 2005, that resulted in more than 1000% growth the internet subscribers within 5 years of the policy.

Technology today is transforming lives at a breakneck speed. From the era of Industrialization and then Information Technology, we are now entering the age of sustainable development. Our incoming challenges lie in contributing to sustainable development in the wake of global phenomena like the climate change, mass urbanization and rapid population growth, by ensuring that we swiftly develop solutions that are not only economically, socially and environmentally inclusive, catering for all facets of the social strata, but also help keep the detrimental effects of technology at bay from our children and future generations.
Anticipating this kind of future, we now at the Telecom Foundation group are aiming to contribute to the resolution of the challenges by developing and providing state of the art, sustainable and smart technology solutions and services with a view to eventually serving the society through provision of high quality education, health and other social contributions to our mandated welfare subjects across the country. Already carrying a proven legacy of delivering high quality digital connectivity and infrastructure development to organizations as well as imparting education to children across the country for over 32, the Telecom Foundation Group has the necessary foundation and credibility to aptly strategize, implement and grow this new paradigm shift strategic vision.
