In light of the vision & Five-Year Strategic Master plan initiated by the P&CEO in 2020, the Business Development Department was created to play a critical role in funds generation by identifying, pursuing and capitalizing on the latest growth opportunities in the market; the aim behind which is to financially support the welfare mandate of Telecom Foundation.
Business development department of Telecom Foundation plays a vital role in sustainability of the organization through the following functions under the 5-year Strategic Master plan:

Exploring and researching latest market trends in order to capture new growth opportunities and projects.

Development and execution of strategies for undertaking the projects, which may generate economic value while aligning with the organization’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) to improve community well-being.

Evaluating potential risks (if any) in the upcoming projects and developing mechanism to minimize these risks.

Ensuring all projects are strategically aligned with the vision of the Foundation to support education and health initiatives for beneficiaries and the general public.

Efficient, effective and timely completion of the ongoing revenue-generating projects.

Ensuring the smooth implementation of Five-Year Strategic Master Plan for the sustainability of organization.

Collaborating with Sales, Marketing, and Regional Business units to identify new opportunities and strengthen the current market position by improved branding and networking.

Business Development department is structured to ensure efficient operations in alignment with Telecom Foundation's strategic objectives:
The departmental headquarter unit in Islamabad provides a supervisory, support and centralized product and services development, sales and marketing role for the regional business units, namely RBU North (Islamabad), RBU Central (Lahore) and RBU South (Karachi), ensuring proximity and efficient support to all clients across these regions.
The department currently has core business comprising of three areas:

Development and laying of Optical Fibre networks (GPON, FTTH, Long haul Projects)

SDG Business (Green Energy, Smart Cities, IT Development projects)

IPT (Institute for Professional Training), providing ICT trainings to professionals

Historically, the Foundation has rolled out over 35,000 km of ICT access networks for the likes of PTCL, NTC and other private sector ICT service providers. It has also trained over 40,000 professionals in ICT skills from organizations such as Pak Army, Pak Navy, NTC and Atomic Energy Commission through the Institute for Professional Training (IPT) at five locations across the country.
In its recent achievements, the Business Development department has celebrated several key milestones since 2023, which highlight its ability to deliver impactful project results & drive Telecom Foundation’s welfare and financial objectives:
1. GPON FTTH Network Projects:
The department facilitated the deployment of over 9,000 GPON FTTH lines across Pakistan, including:

2. Solar Energy Projects:
Telecom Foundation has successfully completed the following significant solarization projects in the government, residential, and corporate sectors:

Solarization of HDIP Lab, Karachi – 51.5 KW, PKR 11.2 million

Solarization of IRSA, Islamabad – 78.8 KW, PKR 12.3 million

Solarization of Ministry of Defense – 265 KW, PKR 37 million

CEMB, Lahore (PV Panel Supply) – 300 KW, PKR 11.1 million

3. Partnerships:
Telecom Foundation also formed essential strategic partnership with the likes of Google, PTCL, Nimbgo, Gallup and others to foster its business development activities, enabling it to successfully entre into new markets and sectors.
4. Growing Financial results:
The Foundation has been achieving a sustainable year-on-year revenue growth since the introduction of its first 5-year strategic master plan in the year 2020, contributing to the financial stability of the organization.


Roadmap
The Business Development department follows a well-defined Five-Year Strategic Master Plan, initiated in 2020 by the P&CEO, to guide its growth and ensure sustainability.
Key elements of the roadmap include:

Expanding the Global, regional and local markets for strategic project and competitive business opportunities specific to the Foundation, over the next 5 years.

Expansion of existing project portfolios in Optical fibre networks (GPON FTTH, long haul), SDG based business such as Green energy, IoT based Smart city and IT solutions to expand its income base, thereby strengthening the Foundation’s capacity to fulfil its mandated social welfare based activities.

Aligning and anticipating new initiatives and partnerships with the overarching goal of supporting education and health initiatives for beneficiaries and the general public.
